Empowering the Ecosystem: Anthropic Launches Claude for Open Source Program
Open-source maintainers are the unsung heroes of the digital world. They build and maintain the foundational libraries, frameworks, and tools that power everything from global financial systems to the smallest hobby projects. Recognizing this vital contribution, Anthropic has introduced the Claude for Open Source Program.
This initiative is a "thank you" to the community, offering eligible maintainers and contributors 6 months of free Claude Max (with 20x the usage limits of the standard plan).
Who is Eligible?
The program is specifically designed for those deeply involved in the OSS ecosystem. Key criteria include:
Maintainers: Primary maintainers or core team members of public repositories.
Impact: Repositories should have 5,000+ GitHub stars or 1M+ monthly NPM downloads.
Activity: You must have made commits, releases, or PR reviews within the last 3 months.
Note: If you maintain a project that the ecosystem "quietly depends on" but doesn't quite hit those specific metrics, Anthropic encourages you to apply anyway and share your story.
How to Apply
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the program is currently accepting up to 10,000 contributors. To get started, you’ll need to provide your GitHub handle and the URL of the repository you work on.
This is a fantastic opportunity for developers to leverage the power of Claude’s advanced reasoning and coding capabilities to streamline their workflows, review code more efficiently, and continue building the future of open software.
